The advertised rate is not the price of an MSME term loan. Compare the KFS, APR, net amount received, repayment schedule and every mandatory charge. Then place the instalments against the business’s conservative cash-flow calendar.
Start with the KFS and net proceeds
For retail and MSME term loans covered by RBI’s KFS framework, the statement is intended to show key terms, APR, charges and the repayment schedule in a standard form. Subtract charges deducted at disbursement from the sanctioned amount. That net amount is what the business can actually deploy.
Do not mix term-loan and working-capital comparisons
A term loan, overdraft and cash-credit facility solve different timing problems. APR is useful for a term-loan comparison, but a working-capital line also needs utilisation assumptions, renewal conditions, drawing power and non-utilisation or other charges. Compare offers built for the same need.
| Field | Offer A | Offer B |
|---|---|---|
| Net proceeds | Sanction minus upfront deductions | Sanction minus upfront deductions |
| APR / all-in cost | From KFS | From KFS |
| Repayment timing | Match to sales cycle | Match to sales cycle |
| Security and covenants | Record collateral and reporting duties | Record collateral and reporting duties |
| Exit cost | Use written foreclosure terms | Use written foreclosure terms |
Challenge mandatory add-ons
Ask whether insurance, a current account, payment product, professional fee or platform charge is mandatory, optional or paid to a third party. A charge not disclosed in the applicable KFS should not be treated as invisible. Obtain the invoice, beneficiary and refund/cancellation rule.
Test the instalment against a bad quarter
Build a month-by-month schedule using conservative collections, tax dates, payroll, supplier payments and seasonal lows. A cheaper loan can still be unsuitable if its first instalment arrives before the financed asset or inventory produces cash.
Verify MSME identity separately
Use the official Udyam portal for registration status and classification. Do not pay a private website merely to “validate” an Udyam number. Lender underwriting and government scheme eligibility remain separate from registration.
