Do not submit the same application repeatedly. Ask the lender which part failed—credit report data, existing obligations, income evidence, course/institution policy, collateral, margin, or documentation—then repair only the proven issue.
Get the co-borrower’s reports before guessing
Obtain the current reports from the credit information companies and compare accounts, ownership, balances, overdue status, enquiries, and closure dates with statements. A low or changed score is not itself a diagnosis; find the underlying data or repayment pattern.
Separate an error from a real obligation
For wrong ownership, duplicate accounts, stale balances, or missing closure, dispute with the reporting lender and the credit information company using account-level evidence. For genuine overdue debt or unaffordable obligations, make a repayment and cash-flow plan rather than searching for a “score fix” shortcut.
| Finding | Evidence | Next move |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong report data | Statements, closure letter, identity proof | File and track a data dispute |
| Real overdue | Loan/card ledger | Cure arrears and preserve proof |
| High existing burden | All EMIs and household cash flow | Reduce amount or restructure funding plan |
| Lender policy mismatch | Written eligibility/document response | Apply only where the case actually fits |
Rebuild the application as one consistent file
Match names, addresses, income, tax records, bank statements, course cost, disbursement need, margin, and collateral details. Explain one-off credits or obligations instead of letting the lender infer. Compare the KFS and repayment schedule for any revised offer.
Avoid harmful “repair” tactics
- Do not dispute accurate negative data.
- Do not add a nominal co-borrower who will not actually support repayment.
- Do not hide existing loans or fabricate income.
- Do not pay an agent promising guaranteed approval or instant score increases.
Escalate data and service problems precisely
Credit institutions must report accurate information and handle corrections under RBI’s credit-information framework. Use the lender/CIC complaint route with the disputed field and evidence. A lending decision can still differ after data is corrected; distinguish service/data failure from underwriting discretion.
