1. Check the Ring app
- Open the correct device page.
- Review device health, power status, network signal, and setup messages.
- Check whether the device is installing an update before interrupting it.
- Confirm the app is signed into the account that owns the device.
2. Check power by device type
Battery device:
- Reseat a charged battery approved for the model.
- Inspect contacts for dirt or damage without using metal tools.
Plug-in device:
- Reseat the adapter and test the outlet.
- Stop if the adapter or cable is damaged or overheating.
Hardwired device:
- Switch off the circuit before touching the installation.
- Do not guess at transformer ratings or bypass safety devices.
- Use an electrician when the wiring or supply is uncertain.
3. Check network reachability
- Confirm other devices can use the internet.
- Review signal strength in Device Health.
- Restart the router only if the wider network is affected.
- Avoid permanently reducing WiFi security to complete setup.
4. Restart before resetting
Use the documented restart or power-cycle method for the exact model. Allow time for startup and any update to finish. A factory reset should be the last step because it can remove ownership and configuration.
