| Party | Useful responsibility |
|---|---|
| Recipient | Search the named location, preserve evidence and open the eligible service request. |
| Sender/merchant | Verify the address and shipment, provide purchase remedy and file an insurance claim when the service terms make the sender the claimant. |
| USPS | Review delivery records and run the eligible Missing Mail or claim process. |
Use USPS Missing Mail only when the mailpiece and timing meet the live eligibility instructions. Missing Mail search, insurance claim and merchant refund are different processes; one submission does not automatically start the others.
If there is concrete evidence of mail theft, preserve video without posting it publicly and use the appropriate U.S. postal/law-enforcement route. If the evidence instead points to misdelivery, keep the request focused on recovery and correction. A payment dispute is a last resort after the seller’s documented process, not a substitute for asking the sender to perform its delivery obligation. Keep the seller updated with the USPS case number and recovery result so both processes use the same facts.
