Roomba Charging Error 6 or 7: battery too hot or too cold

Charging Errors 6 and 7 are temperature faults. Move the robot and battery to normal room temperature and let them stabilize before charging again.

Start here

Charging Errors 6 and 7 are temperature faults. Move the robot and battery to normal room temperature and let them stabilize before charging again.

Check these first

  • Move the robot away from direct heat, sun, cold floors/garages and vents.
  • Allow time for the battery and robot—not just the room air—to reach normal temperature.
  • Check that the dock itself is not in an extreme-temperature location.

Fix it in this order

  1. Take the robot off the dock.
  2. Let it stabilize naturally at room temperature.
  3. Return it to the dock and retry.
  4. If the code returns at normal room temperature, have the battery/temperature sensing path checked.

Evidence to keep

  • Room/location conditions
  • Whether fault follows a hot/cold event
  • Whether it clears after stabilization

Do not make it harder

  • Heating a cold battery with a hair dryer
  • Cooling a hot battery in a refrigerator/freezer
  • Charging a swollen or visibly damaged pack

How you know it is fixed

  • The robot charges normally at room temperature and the temperature error does not recur.

If the obvious fix does not work

  1. If it only happens after long missions, let the robot cool before redocking and inspect for abnormal heat.
  2. If it happens immediately in a normal room, the sensor/battery may be faulty rather than the environment.

If this still isn't resolved

  1. iRobot support if the temperature code persists in normal conditions
