Roomba Charging Error 2: charge fault or possible liquid damage
Charging Error 2 is a charging fault, not a simple “old battery” message.
Start here
Charging Error 2 is a charging fault, not a simple “old battery” message. iRobot specifically says to verify an authentic battery and check the robot and dock for liquid damage.
Check these first
- Inspect the robot, battery area, dock and cord for moisture, corrosion, heat or damage.
- Confirm the battery is the intended genuine pack.
- Reseat the battery and retry once in a dry room-temperature environment.
Fix it in this order
- Disconnect power if there is any sign of liquid or heat damage.
- If dry and undamaged, reinstall the battery and place the robot on the dock.
- If Error 2 persists with a genuine battery, use service rather than repeatedly attempting to charge a faulted system.
Evidence to keep
- Photos of contacts/dock
- Battery identity
- Whether liquid exposure occurred
- Whether fault persists with a known-good genuine battery
Do not make it harder
- Charging visibly wet equipment
- Opening lithium battery packs
- Repeatedly forcing a charge after heat/burning signs
How you know it is fixed
- The robot charges normally with no Error 2.
- No heat, moisture or damage warning remains.
If the obvious fix does not work
- If the error began after cleaning/mopping near the dock, allow the equipment to dry fully before any retry and do not use heat to force-dry the battery.
- If a second genuine battery produces the same fault, the robot or charging path is more suspect than the battery.
If this still isn't resolved
- iRobot Customer Care
- Authorized repair/replacement when the fault persists
