← Full guide: Philips Hue Bulb Not Pairing: Bridge vs Bluetooth Checks
Hue Bridge cannot find a bulb automatically
Keep the bulb powered and close enough to the Bridge, then add it by the six-character serial number if automatic search fails.
Start here
Keep the bulb powered and close enough to the Bridge, then add it by the six-character serial number if automatic search fails. A serial-number add can also reset a Hue light into the current system.
Check these first
- Confirm the bulb is powered.
- Confirm the Bridge itself is connected and updated.
- Locate the six-character light serial number.
Fix it in this order
- Hue app → Settings → Lights → + → Use serial number.
- Enter the six-character serial and Search.
- Wait for the light to flash and appear in the app.
Evidence to keep
- Bridge online
- Serial number
- Search/reset result
Do not make it harder
- Assuming the previous owner must be available before trying an official reset
- Resetting every bulb when the Bridge itself cannot discover any device
How you know it is fixed
- The bulb appears under the intended Bridge and responds consistently.
If the obvious fix does not work
- If serial search fails, reset the light with a Hue dimmer switch where supported: power-cycle the light, then hold top and bottom dimmer buttons near the light for at least 10 seconds within the reset window.
- If many lights all fail discovery, diagnose the Bridge/network before resetting every bulb.
If this still isn't resolved
- Philips Hue support if a powered/reset bulb cannot be discovered by a healthy Bridge
