A charger warranty claim becomes much easier when you can show the same fault across controlled tests. Do not repeatedly reset a unit that is hot, burnt, water-damaged, arcing or tripping protective devices. Isolate it safely and obtain qualified electrical inspection.
| Symptom | Likely layer to test first | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| No power / breaker trips | Supply, circuit, earthing, protection | Electrician/installer test results |
| Powers on, vehicle will not charge | Connector, compatibility, vehicle/charger fault codes | Error codes and known-good comparison |
| Energy flows but app/payment fails | Network, backend, account/payment | Session ID, timestamps, screenshots |
| Fault repeats on known-good supply and vehicle | Charger hardware | Serial, diagnostics, video and service report |
Build a claim packet before the first escalation
- Charger model and serial number.
- Purchase/installation invoice and warranty terms.
- Installer details and commissioning record.
- Photos of installation, protection devices and connector condition.
- Dated error codes, session IDs and videos.
- Tests performed and their results.
Ask the manufacturer to state the diagnosis, whether the claim is accepted, and who bears removal, labour, transport and reinstallation costs. “Part covered under warranty” does not automatically answer labour or logistics.
Keep site warranty and product warranty separate
If undersized wiring, earthing or a protective-device issue caused the fault, the charger manufacturer may not own the remedy. Conversely, an installer should not dismiss a verified internal hardware failure as “site power”. Get each party’s diagnosis in writing.
Escalate a specific consumer remedy
If a paid product/service provider fails to resolve a documented warranty issue, use the National Consumer Helpline where appropriate. For EV scheme issues, the PM E‑DRIVE portal is relevant only when the problem actually concerns the scheme—not an ordinary hardware warranty dispute.
Decision rule: prove which layer fails, stop unsafe use, and ask for one concrete remedy. A good warranty file is a diagnostic record, not a folder of angry screenshots.
