An EV battery replacement is not always “pack capacity × market cell price”. The owner may face diagnosis, module repair, full-pack replacement, labour, transport, cooling-system work, software pairing and lost vehicle use. Warranty coverage also depends on the exact OEM terms and failure cause.
Build three cost scenarios

Get the exact pack identity first
Record model year, trim, battery chemistry/capacity where specified, pack serial number and warranty terms. Prices quoted for another variant are not a valid reserve. Ask the authorised service network for a written estimate or current part-price range rather than relying on a forum post from a different year.
Separate degradation from a warrantable defect
Reduced range can come from temperature, tyres, driving pattern, software, cell imbalance or genuine degradation. Ask for diagnostic state-of-health information where the OEM provides it and read the warranty definition carefully. A capacity threshold warranty is different from a warranty against manufacturing failure.
Use vehicle value as a decision boundary
If a full-pack replacement approaches a large fraction of the vehicle’s current market value, compare repair, replacement, sale-as-is and continued use after diagnosis. Do not automatically spend ₹X because “the battery is the heart of the EV”. The economically correct decision depends on the rest of the vehicle and remaining useful life.
Create a monthly reserve
Take the uninsured/worst plausible owner-paid cost, subtract cash you are willing to use from emergency savings, and divide the remainder by the months until the vehicle reaches the risk period you care about. Keep this reserve separate from normal maintenance.
