Credit Report Name or PAN Mismatch: Correction Checklist

An identity mismatch can split or contaminate a credit file, but the fix depends on the source. A bureau displays data supplied by member institutions; changing your profile in one place may not correct every lender record.

Correct the data at its source

Use the same evidence and wording across the lender and bureau disputes.

1

Download the full reports. Mark the exact identity field and every account affected.

2

Check lender KYC. Ask the reporting lender what identity data it currently holds for the account.

3

File precise disputes. State the wrong value, correct value and supporting document. Keep both lender and bureau reference numbers.

4

Wait for the reporting cycle or confirmed correction. Do not submit repeated duplicate disputes while one is actively being investigated.

5

Re-download the report. Confirm both the identity section and linked accounts are correct; escalate an unresolved regulated-lender service failure through the appropriate grievance route.

Do not dispute accurate negative history merely because the identity field is wrong. Correct identity and account data specifically; legitimate repayment history should remain legitimate.

Use the same short chronology and attachments for the lender and bureau. Ask for a written outcome, not only a new score.
